TOUGH WEEKEND...

10/11/10

The weekend of 10/8-10/10 was a tough one for the QU Soccer Hawks. Although the players gave 100% effort in their games with the University of Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky both games were lost.

On Friday 10/8 the Hawks fell 1-0 to the Greyhounds when they scored on a breakaway with just 22 seconds left in the second overtime period. Throughout the game the Hawks played well and created several great scoring chances but were denied four possible goals. Grant Ellison (junior striker from St. Dominic HS)was thwarted twice as he had one of his blasts ping off the lower goal post and spin out, and another bravely saved by the Hounds keeper. Jack Wedemeier (senior striker from Cape Notre Dame) was also unlucky twice as Indy's keeper punched out one of Jack's patented free kick drives, and then saved his valient head shot attempt on another occasion.

On Sunday 10/10 the Hawks battled toe to toe with NKU (then ranked #9 in the Nation) but again came up short. The game waas a real war with no player on eithr side giving an inch. However, NKU's All-America striker Steve Beattie managed to slip away on two occasions in the second half to provide great assist passes to two of his teammates to earn the victory for the Norse.

Currently the Hwks are 7-5 and 6-4 in the GLVC. Their next matches are Friday 10/15 at 1:15 PM at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and then on Sunday 10/17 at 2:30 PM at St. Joseph's College (IN). If you are near either of these venues stop by and root the team on.

GO HAWKS...
