10/18/10
This past weekend the Soccer Hawks defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside 4-1 on Friday and then tacked on a 1-0 win over St. Joseph's College on Sunday, October 17th. The two victories raised the Hawk record to 9-5 overall and to 8-4 in the GLVC.
In Friday's win Jack Wedemeier (Sr. striker from Cape Notre Dame) led the way with two goals while Grant Ellison (Jr. striker from St. Dominic HS) added one and Corey Eatherton (Sr. winger from Summit HS)notched the other. Assists went to Mike Andres (So. right back from DeSmet HS) and Jeff Vaninger (SO. striker from CBC HS). All the Hawk midfieldeers and defenders did a good job of containing the UWP Rangers, and DJ Lampert (So. goalie from Lutheran South HS was credited with 8 saves, a couple very important ones coming very early on in the match.
On Sunday, the Hawks were in a tough battle with the Pumas of St. Joseph's College and needed Ryan Hirtz's (Sr. winger from St. Dominic HS) goal in the 70th minute to get by the determined hosts. Hirtz's goal came from a corner kick delivered by Jeff Vaninger (So. striker from CBC HS). Although QU keeper DJ Lampert (So. from Lutheran South HS) was only called upon to make 4 saves two of them were quite critical to secure the Hawk victory.
The Hawks finish off the regular season with a non-Conference match on Wednesday at Truman State University in Kirksville MO, and then play host to GLVC rivals University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday night 10/22 at 7:30 PM, and Lewis University on Sunday 10/24 at 2:30 PM. Both tese matches are at North Campus Field. If you're in the neighborhood of any of these matches please stop by and cheer on the QU Soccer Hawks.
