HAWKS EARN PLAY-OFF SPOT

10/25/10

Last week was a busy and successful week for the Soccer Hawks. On Wednesday 10/20 they traveled to Kirksville MO and drew 1-1 with #14 nationally ranked Truman State University in a non-Conference match. The match was end-to-end and quite intense for the entire 110 minutes of action. Grant Ellison (JR from St. Dominic HS) scored for QU. Mike Andres (SO from DeSmet HS) supplied the assit.

On Friday, 10/22 the Hawks bested the Prairie Stars from the University of Illinois-Springfield 5-0 in the GLVC match that clinched their play-off berth in the Conference Tournament. Grant Ellison scored twice, goals number 11 and 12 on the year for him. Jack Wedemeier (SR from Cape Notre Dame) notched his 9th goal of the season while Carl Hodges (SO from Sedgefield, England) and Jeff Vaninger (SO from CBC HS)each tallied their third goals. Jeff Vaninger and Ryan Seifert (FR from St. Dominic HS) each provided two assists. Wedemeier and Andres also had one assit apiece.

On Sunday 10/24 the Hawks and Lewis University battled to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of very intense soccer action. Scoring chances for both teams were limited. However, DJ Lampert (So from Lutheran South HS) made two needed stops to preserve the "clean sheet" on the day.

This coming Sunday 10/31 the #4 seeded Hawks will host the #5 seeded Panthers from Drury University in the opening round of the GLVC Conference Tournament. Kick-off time at North Campus Field will be 2:30 PM. Earlier in the year the Hawks defeated the Panthers 1-0 in a very exciting contest. If you're anywhere near QU's North Campus Field this Sunday come on in and root the team on to victory.
