On Tuesday night 9/21 the soccer hawks traveled to neutral field COSMO Park in Columbia, MO to play Drury University and came away with an exciting 1-0 GLVC win. The game had originally been scheduled for 9/10 in Quincy but that match was cancelled after 25 minutes due to lightening with the Hawks 1-0 up at the time. However, last night’s game had to be completely replayed from the beginning with the teams starting out even at 0-0.
Grant Ellison (Jr. striker from St. Dominic HS) scored on a breakaway midway through the second half using his speed to run on to a perfect through-ball supplied by Jack Wedemeier (Sr. Striker from Cape Notre Dame HS). Ellison beat Drury’s keeper and center back to the pass and finessed it into the open goal mouth. After that, the hawk defense rose to the occasion and deflected several Drury attempts to get back into the game. The Hawks win puts QU’s record at 4-2 and 3-1 in the GLVC. Their next matches come this Friday 9/24 versus Southern Indiana at 7:30PM and Sunday 9/26 versus UMSL at 2:30PM, both at QU’s North Campus Field.
GO HAWKS…
