9/5/10
The Soccer Hawks opened the 2010 soccer season with a good 2-0 win on Friday night against McKendree University, and then turned around on Sunday and absorbed a disappointing 1-0 loss to St. Edwards University of Austin, Texas.
On Friday night, the team was alive and spitited and really played well and deserved to win. They looked like a good NCAA Division II soccer team. Sunday though was a different story as the team did not come to play and therefore put on a very poor performance. The caliber of their play merited the loss.
So, after the first week of the season the Hawk's record is 1 and 1.
There are 15 regular season games left. If in future games the team comes to play like they did on Friday they should earn a few more victories. However, if they come to any remaining game as they did on Sunday a lot of losses are also possible.
This team is capable of winning a good number of games. They are also capable of a lot of losses. So how is this season going to play out? It depends on the PLAYERS and the frame of mind and commitment they bring to the field on game day. It's up to them. The players have to decide what they want out of this season and how hard they are willing to work to achieve it.
What's up for next weekend? Two greater challenges than were faced this weekend.
On Friday night Drury University comes to North Campus Field for a 7:30 PM kick-off. On Sunday, 9/12 the Hawks are away for a 2:30 PM kick-off at Rockhurst University. Both of these are important GLVC matches.
