On Saturday, April 10th, the Soccer Hawks traveled to Macomb (IL) and won their opening spring exhibition match 1-0 over Western Illinois University. The Hawks controlled most of the match and had several other good scoring opportunities while limiting WIU to only a couple. The Hawks scored midway through the second half when Co-Captain Abe Dirnberger (central defender) glanced in a header off a free kick served in from the right wing by Co-Captian (striker) Jack Wedemeier.
This coming Saturday, April 17th, the Hawks will play William Woods College at Pride Park in Columbia (MO) at 2 PM. This match was originally scheduled to be played in Quincy but has been changed to Pride Park in Columbia (MO). Directions to Pride Park are:
Pride Park is located 3 miles north of I-70 off Hwy. 63.
From I-70 (in Columbia) take Hwy. 63 North to Brown School Road.
Go West (left) on Brown School Road to stop sign.
Go right on Roger B. Wilson to Pride Park entrance on your left.
Kick-off is slated for 2 PM.
All are again reminded about the QU Soccer Alumni Golf Shootout May 21 at Clinton Hill Golf Course in Swansea (IL), about 15 minutes across the river from the St. Louis arch. This is the ONE fund-raising event of the year for the QU Men's Soccer program. However, first and forermost it is a celebration of friendships forged between and among former QU soccer players, their families and friends, other QU alums, and others friendly to and supportive of QU soccer.
It's an all-inclusive day of golf, lunch, dinner, prizes, and fun. If at all possible please join us on May 21. Registration to play is still only $100 per player ($400 per foursome). If you can't play but want to show your support for the Soccer Hawks you can sponsor a Tee box sign for $100 and list your name and/or your business, or some supportive message. Even though costs continue to go up we have not raised our fees in the seven years of this event. Why? Because we cherish your involvement. To register as a golfer or to sponsor a Tee box sign please e-mail Jim Eagan at jim.eagan@wwt.com and copy Craig Hingle candkhingle@mindspring.com . If you need further information e-mail Jack Mackenzie at mackejb@quincy.edu.
